Instead of just buying a couple of rolls of gift-wrap this year, I decided to be a little more creative and turned to The Sound of Music for inspiration.
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things!
I love songs from old musicals! When I was about 8 or 9, I had a singing teacher used to play the music on the piano and we sang most of The Sound of Music repertoire: My Favorite Things, The Lonely Goatherd, Do-Re-Mi…
Brown paper packages tied up with ribbon (or string!) look pretty and vintage. It is also more economical than buying expensive gift-wrap and gift bags: I bought a large roll of brown parcel paper from Amazon. Any craft store should carry it, but it’s probably cheaper to get it online.
What you need:
Brown paper
Ribbon — I chose fabric ribbon with a Merry Christmas snowflake motif
Sticky tape
Optional:
Christmas themed rubber stamps — I used a gift stamp that labels gifts ‘To…. From….’ and a Christmas star
Gold and silver pigment ink pads
I wrapped up my gifts in brown paper, stamped them with a gift label and a star, and tied them up with ribbon. It’s a fun Christmas craft that is simple, but will makes gifts look wonderfully festive!
What creative things are you doing for Christmas this year? Do share!
I love this! I have a package that I need to send out and was fretting about how to do so that would also ensure the security of its contents without it looking too much like a mish-mash job. This looks good AND won’t distract the postal service people too much.
I’m just planning on getting my chill on at home this Christmas but also catching up on some personal projects. I have a bunch of photos I need to put up on my wall and also get going on a scrapbook that should’ve been done in the summer but instead got put to the side until now. Happy holidays, Grace! Hope you’re keeping warm, the UK temperatures are looking quite chilly lately!

Thank you Lillian! Happy holidays to you too. 🙂 I like quiet Christmases at home — this year I’m spending Christmas Day with family (my mother, my sister, brother-in-law and three little nieces), but the rest of the time I’m mostly going to be at home, finishing a university project and just relaxing.
The temperatures aren’t too bad at the moment. In fact, it’s quite mild but it is supposed to get colder after Christmas!
I hope your projects go well. Have fun with the scrapbooking! 🙂

I’ve been pretty anti-creative this Christmas, but I love seeing what you’ve done. Very nice!

Simple and beautiful! I love it. Jimmy and I have been singing that song a lot lately since it’s on a commercial that we hear 24/7, haha!!

Thank you! 🙂
Haha, it is a very catchy song! I was humming it when I wrote the post and for several days after! “Deck the halls with boughs of holly…..” is another one I find myself singing: quite appropriate for the time of year!
